School inspectors undergo digital skills training

THE Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is strengthening the capacity of school inspectors through a five-day workshop aimed at developing self-paced digital learning modules to enhance school inspection and improvement.

The indaba, underway at the Education Development Trust (EDT) offices in Harare, brings together school inspectors from various districts and representatives from key Ministry departments.

Led by the Ministry’s technical working group with support from EDT through the Education System Strengthening Initiative, the workshop is focusing on the development of four self-paced learning modules.

The Ministry said the modules would equip inspectors with practical skills in inspection reporting, data analysis, coaching and instructional leadership.

“The modules will provide practical guidance on inspection reporting, data analysis, coaching and instructional leadership, helping to strengthen inspectors’ skills and promote consistent, high-quality reports that contribute to school improvement across Zimbabwe,” said the Ministry.

The self-paced courses will be deployed on digital platforms, including the Learning Passport, allowing inspectors to access continuous professional development opportunities.

In a related development, the Ministry will this Thursday hold a continuous professional development webinar focusing on the implementation of the post-inspection School Improvement Plan (SIP).

The virtual session is expected to equip district school inspectors, inspectors, school heads and other school leaders with practical skills to implement the digitised post-inspection SIP.

According to the Ministry, participants will be trained on accessing the Kobo template, translating inspection findings into SMART targets and actionable steps, and submitting approved plans within 14 days.

The webinar will also focus on monitoring progress, strengthening accountability and evidence requirements, as well as improving stakeholder engagement.

The Ministry said the interventions were part of broader efforts to strengthen school leadership, sustain improvements in schools and ultimately improve learner outcomes and the quality of education across the country.
