Man United fans need to see Benjamin Sesko's 'superb' Champions League masterclass, he must start

Benjamin Sesko is yet to play in the Champions League for Manchester United but some of his best performances elsewhere have come in this competition.

Manchester United face Sabah FK in their Champions League opener and there are seven players who could debut in the competition for the Red Devils.

But there are others, like Benjamin Sesko, who have already experienced Champions League football elsewhere. In the Slovenian’s case, it was at RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg.

Sesko has an impressive Champions League record when it comes to finding the back of the net, and without doubt his best performance in Europe came against Juventus.

Benjamin Sesko’s ‘superb’ Champions League display

Sesko, at 23 years old, already has seven Champions League goals to his name. Two of those came against Juventus in the 2024/25 season.

Speaking via UEFA, Rafa Benitez raved about Sesko’s timing, speed and finishing in the game, where he scored an impressive brace against Juventus.

The Bundesliga website praised Sesko’s “superb” ball striking in the match, and pointed out that Juventus were yet to concede a single goal in Serie A before Sesko’s double.

In both cases, Sesko exploited space behind Juventus’ defence before firing in a powerful shot. At United, Sesko should be full of confidence from his goal against Everton in the recent 2-2 draw.

The Slovenian will now be pushing for a spot in Michael Carrick’s XI for the Champions League opener.

Benjamin Sesko is perfectly suited for the Champions League

Sesko now has a year of experience at United, and fans have grown to learn that his biggest strengths are in his athleticism, speed and jumping.

With that in mind, Sesko is built for the Champions League, where teams usually play more expansively and leave more space behind their defence.

It explains why Sesko has such an impressive scoring record in Europe, and that is something United should be using to their advantage.

Sesko’s physicality makes him a strong striker in the Premier League, but his speed and movement can make him just as deadly in the Champions League.

Carrick has so far opted to start Matheus Cunha up front for United in 2026/27, but the Sabah Champions League clash is a perfect opportunity for Sesko to make his first start of the season.
