German outlet Neupresse reports that Boniface is among several forwards being considered by Hannover, who could offer the Nigerian another opportunity to revive his career in German football.
The 25-year-old returned to Bayer Leverkusen this summer after a difficult loan spell at Werder Bremen, where he failed to score in 11 appearances during the 2025/26 season.
His spell at Werder followed an injury-hit period at Leverkusen, where his progress had also been disrupted by fitness problems. Boniface remains under contract with the Bundesliga club until June 2029.
However, the striker has impressed during pre-season and appears to have improved his position at Leverkusen. He scored twice in four minutes during a 7-0 win over Sportfreunde Baumberg in July before playing a key role in their 3-1 victory over Kickers Offenbach.
He then came off the bench against Newcastle United on August 15 to score an 82nd-minute winner, beating his marker before calmly finishing to seal a 2-1 victory.
The performances have come as Boniface targets a stronger 2026/27 campaign. Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has said the Nigerian is still working towards full 90-minute fitness, although his physical condition has improved.
Boniface has set himself a target of scoring at least 20 goals this season, but competition for places at Leverkusen remains strong, with Patrik Schick and Christian Kofane among the forwards competing for attacking roles.
A move to Hannover could therefore depend on Leverkusen’s plans for the striker. His wages and long-term contract could make a permanent transfer difficult, while a loan could provide a more realistic option for all parties.
