Abanga Yakubu targets over 80% votes in NPP National Youth Organiser race

New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Youth Organiser hopeful, Abanga Yakubu Fusani, has said he is confident of winning the upcoming internal election, targeting more than 80 per cent of the votes.

He said his confidence stems from his campaign activities and feedback from the ground, which he believes indicate strong support among delegates.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr Fusani said he was more hopeful of victory this time than in his previous attempts at the position.

“I am very clear that I am winning the election, based on what I have seen on the ground,” he said.

According to him, he expects the results to demonstrate the level of support he enjoys among the party’s youth, arguing that a strong endorsement from delegates would also help strengthen his public appeal.

“The target is not to win less than 80 per cent. The youth want to send a signal that they accept me, so that Ghanaians will also accept me,” he said.

Mr Fusani said his campaign approach reflects the kind of leadership and resource mobilisation he intends to pursue if elected National Youth Organiser.

He disclosed that more than 40 businesspeople had expressed willingness to support his plans to empower young people in the party should he win the election.

“Over 40 businessmen are willing to come on board to support me when I win the National Youth Organiser position and help empower the youth in Ghana,” he said.

He said his experience as a businessman, coupled with his engagement with the business community, would help him mobilise resources to implement his proposed programmes.

Mr Fusani, however, acknowledged that he could not finance the initiatives alone, stressing the need to demonstrate commitment, sacrifice and leadership to attract support.

“Personally, I am a businessman, but I can’t do it alone. I need to show leadership and prove that I can do it well when I am voted for,” he said.

He added that he had been engaging businesspeople, with at least 40 indicating their willingness to contribute towards youth empowerment initiatives.

Mr Fusani also outlined an ambitious electoral target for the NPP, saying he intends to help mobilise four million votes from young people for the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2028 general election.

He said the party’s youth wing had developed strategies to achieve that objective but stressed that adequate funding would be necessary to translate the plans into action.

“We have the best strategy, but without resources we can’t implement any,” he said.

Mr Fusani maintained that his commitment to the party and willingness to make sacrifices would help him secure the mandate and deliver on his promises to the youth.
