Dar Blockchain, Hashgraph Association select 18 startups for Web3 incubation programme
AI summary
Dar Blockchain and The Hashgraph Association have selected 18 startups for a new Web3 incubation programme supporting winners of the Hedera Africa Hackathon.
Run in partnership with Tunisian incubator Wiki Startup and investment firm UGFS North Africa, with Softstack as security partner, the programme runs until January 2027. It aims to graduate at least five seed-ready companies by an investor demo day in the week of January 18.
The Hedera Africa Hackathon, which wrapped up in April, drew more than 13,000 developers and 1,300 project submissions. A portion of the hackathon’s prize pool has been set aside to support winners with product development, technical implementation and market validation during the incubation phase.
“Most hackathons stop when the winners are announced. For us, that’s where the real work begins,” said Jaafar Saied, co-founder of Dar Blockchain.
Selected startups will move through four sprints and five jury-audited gates, with 21 workshops, one-on-one expert support and introductions to investors. Teams will also be supported to deploy production-ready products on the Hedera mainnet. The programme targets more than 60 per cent of ventures securing signed letters of intent or launching active pilots by the third milestone gate.
The African startups selected are Nigeria’s GreenAfrica, Beyond Service Game, Upesa, Afiya and Cryptonia CITY; Egypt’s Carboni; South Africa’s Direla; Madagascar’s Nia; Zimbabwe’s RDZ Health; Morocco’s Hedron; and Côte d’Ivoire’s APIx.
They are joined by Effisend X Africa (Mexico), Silsilat Finance (Malaysia), Tedera (Romania), W.A.T.A (Brazil), CryptoMage (India), and US-based KeyRing and Building a Chain of Trust in the Green Power-to-X Market.
