Changan has expanded its South African electrified vehicle line-up with the introduction of the Deepal S05 REEV and Changan Uni-S HEV at the Festival of Motoring at Kyalami this week.
The Deepal S05 is positioned as a mid-sized SUV and differs from the larger S07 in its use of range-extender technology rather than a fully electric powertrain.
The S05 REEV uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine purely as a generator, meaning it does not drive the wheels. Instead, a single electric motor producing 160kW and 320Nm powers the vehicle from a 27kWh battery.
Changan claims the S05 can travel for more than 1,000km on a combined cycle, while offering up to 200km of pure electric driving. The battery can also be fast-charged, with the company claiming a 20-minute charging time when connected to an appropriate charger.
Minimalist design, huge screen - you know the drill by now.

The S05 has a rear-wheel-drive layout and offers four drive modes: Comfort, Eco, Sport and Custom.
Standard equipment includes a 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 14-speaker sound system, wireless smartphone charging, heated and ventilated front seats and a panoramic skylight.
Safety features include six airbags, a 540-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning and automatic emergency braking, as well as front and rear parking radars.
Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
Changan has also introduced a hybrid version of its Uni-S mid-sized SUV, which was launched locally as a petrol-only model in April.
The Uni-S HEV combines a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 110kW and 220Nm with an electric motor, with combined system outputs of 166kW and 290Nm.
Power is sent to the front wheels through an electronic CVT, while Changan claims combined fuel consumption of 4.0 litres/100km.
The Uni-S Hybrid also made its South African debut.

The hybrid model is available in CL and CE specifications, with 18-inch and 19-inch wheels respectively.
Equipment includes six airbags, Level 2 driver assistance systems, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist and a 540-degree camera system.
The cabin features microfibre leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats and a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
