Footage emerges of school holiday brawl in Melbourne shopping centre

A group of teenagers were filmed fighting with shopping centre security guards just metres from a school holiday activity.

Families gathered at the ‘fun house’ activity at Highpoint Shopping Centre in Maribyrnong, western Melbourne, saw the frightening brawl shortly before 11am on Sunday.

Disturbing footage of the fight showed the teenagers trying to shake off security guards before viciously punching and kicking them.

Frightened families fled the area as the guards attempted to restrain the group.

Victoria Police arrived at the scene and arrested three teenagers – all males aged 15, 16 and 19 – a short time later.

The two boys were issued cautions for affray while the man was released without charge.

Highpoint is one of the nine major shopping centres in Melbourne covered by Victoria Police’s Operation Pulse.

The operation has seen more police and protective service officers monitoring busy retail spaces to help reduce crime, especially over school holiday periods.

Operation Pulse Superintendent Matt Baynes said the holidays usually coincided with an uptick in crime.

‘The presence of police and PSOs has undoubtedly prevented significant offending at shopping centres,’ he said while launching the operation in December 2025.

‘We are pleased to be able to bolster our resources over this busy period.’
