The Volta North Regional Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old man, Saviour Dzadze, over alleged unlawful possession of firearms, cultivation of suspected narcotics and death threats.
According to a police press release issued on Friday, October 16, the suspect was arrested on Wednesday, September 14, after he was identified by officers at the Kpando Circuit Court premises.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged on September 8 by Dzodzi Kofi Kpakpamipke, who alleged that Mr Dzadze had threatened to kill him at gunpoint.
A search of the suspect’s residence reportedly led to the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle, a pump-action shotgun, a locally manufactured single-barrel gun, 10 AAA Lion cartridges and quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
Police investigations have established that the suspect allegedly exchanged cultivated Indian hemp for the AK-47 rifle with an unidentified man from Togo.
The statement added that the pump-action shotgun was obtained from his brother, Foster Dzadze, in Accra, while the locally manufactured single-barrel gun was inherited from his late father, Mathereous Dzadze.
Mr Dzadze is in police custody assisting investigations and is expected to be arraigned before court, according to the police.
The Volta North Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to fighting crime, adding that efforts are underway to arrest the suspect’s alleged accomplices to assist with investigations.
