The Bauchi State Police Command has foiled an alleged abduction and rescued a 16-year-old boy, while arresting a 60-year-old suspect in Shira Local Government Area of the state.
The Command said on September 28, 2026, the Yana Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress report from a 50-year-old father from Zigau village, Shira local government area, that his 16-year-old son, Usman Dauda, had been abducted from Misau town to Bangala village by one Abdullahi Abubakar, a 60-year-old, of the same village.
According to the report, the suspect allegedly intended to move the boy to Kano for yet-to-be-ascertained reasons.
In a statement issued yesterday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said that upon receipt of the report, detectives swiftly mobilised to the scene, rescued the victim unhurt and arrested the suspect.
He added that the victim was subsequently taken to the General Hospital, Yana, for medical examination.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect confessed to unlawfully confining the victim in his room for a day without proper feeding,” the statement said.
In a separate operation on the same date, operatives attached to the ‘A’ Division arrested five suspects at Doya Quarters, Bauchi, for alleged criminal conspiracy, trespass, housebreaking, mischief and theft.
Habib said the suspects had allegedly invaded an uncompleted building at Doya Quarters and carted away windows and glasses before the arrival of the owner.
“However, luck ran out on them as operatives, acting on credible intelligence, promptly swooped on the area and apprehended all five suspects, with the stolen items recovered as exhibits,” he said.
Similarly, the police spokesperson said the ‘A’ Division received information that some hoodlums had been sighted with suspected stolen items concealed in a black bag.
He said operatives promptly mobilised and arrested the suspects, adding that preliminary investigation confirmed that the items were stolen.
“The owners traced the items to the Division with proofs of ownership for identification and collection,” Habib said.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that all the cases be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for discreet investigation and prosecution.
The Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the Police.
