Ghana has repatriated 120 Nigerian nationals who were arrested during an intelligence-led operation targeting cybercrime activities, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, has announced.
The operation, dubbed Operation Cyberhunt, was led by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) in collaboration with local security and intelligence agencies and their counterparts in the United Kingdom, Nigeria and the United States.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Mr George said the 120 Nigerians had been trafficked to Ghana and forced to work in cybercrime operations.
He expressed gratitude to the Ghana Air Force and the Ministry of Defence for facilitating their repatriation to Nigeria.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of 136 mobile phones, 130 laptops, internet connectivity devices, four motor vehicles and other digital equipment.
According to the minister, one of the vehicles was reported to have been stolen from Canada.
The search team also recovered jewellery and 10 Nigerian passports during the operation.
Mr George disclosed that authorities were processing eight other individuals for prosecution, although he did not provide details of the alleged offences or clarify their specific roles in the suspected criminal activities.
He said the operation formed part of efforts to combat cybercrime and prevent criminal networks from using Ghana as a base for their activities.
“Ghana under President John Dramani Mahama will remain an unfavourable destination for cyber criminals,” he stated.
The operation highlights growing cooperation among security agencies across multiple jurisdictions to tackle cybercrime and human trafficking, particularly where victims are allegedly recruited or transported across borders and forced to participate in criminal activities.
