Slovenian press react to Benjamin Sesko pulling out of international duty with latest Manchester United injury

Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has suffered another injury relapse.

Benjamin Sesko missed Manchester United’s game with Fulham at the weekend, and he has subsequently pulled out of the Slovenia international squad.

He has not played for Slovenia since October 2025, missing subsequent call-ups with injuries. This latest blow is as annoying for his national team as it is for Manchester United.

Sesko missed all of pre-season with a shin injury suffered against Liverpool at the end of last season, and he is thought to be dealing with a recurrence of the same problem.

He will play no part for Slovenia in their UEFA Nations League matches, which kick off against Scotland.

The reaction in Slovenia shows a mixture of annoyance and concern.

National outlet Ekipa mysteriously note: “The national team has obtained medical papers from Manchester, but for now it cannot and does not want to disclose the contents to the public.”

But it is simply a matter of process, adding that Manchester United should be the ones to communicate Sesko’s injury news.

Football Mania ask if Manchester United allowed Sesko to leave too soon, and called on the club to manage him more responsibly, and learn the lessons.

“They will have to be more adept at managing the player’s immense desire to play and prove himself, and stopping him when he is at the limit of his physical capabilities. The price for “playing beyond the limit” is too high.”

Slovenia’s Planet Football write with some irritation of Sesko’s injury and recent struggles in front of goal for his country.

“Slovenia will miss him in four matches of the Nations League , and there is no need to waste words on how big a blow this is. Our national team has been missing its striking striker for a long time, who has been without a match for almost a year and without a goal for almost two years.”

Slovenia forward Andraz Sporar points out the challenge that Sesko’s absence will pose for the team.

Sporar tells 24ur: “It is impossible to replace a player of Benjamin’s caliber. But football is a team sport and Slovenia has never depended on just one player.

It is clearly necessary that Sesko does get the appropriate rest in, and resolves his injury issue once and for all.

Manchester United or Slovenia do not need him suffering regular setbacks,
