PHALOMBE: Mutharika’s Reformed CDF Brings Thambula CDSS Project To Life

Phalombe, September 25, MANA: Phalombe District Council has handed over a site in Phalombe North East Constituency for the construction of Thambula Community Day Secondary School (CDSS), a project expected to increase access to secondary education in the area.

The project is being implemented under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which allocates MK5 billion to each constituency.
PMC Limited has been awarded the contract at a total cost of MK2,975,209.87, with construction expected to take four months.

Speaking during the official handover on Thursday, Phalombe District Commissioner Yobu Makina Gama, said the increased CDF allocation will enable councils and constituencies to implement larger development projects.

“The contractor should speed up construction while ensuring that the project is completed according to the required standards and within the agreed period of four months,” said Makina.

He said the long-term plan was to develop the school into a boarding facility, noting that Phalombe District currently has only one public boarding secondary school.

“This will further improve access to education for both boys and girls,” he said.

Phalombe North East Member of Parliament, Wilfred Mpisa, urged community members to take ownership of the project and work together with the contractor to ensure its successful completion.

“The contractor should consider employing people from the surrounding communities to provide them with job opportunities during construction,” said Mpisa.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Village Head Thambula welcomed the project, saying construction of the school will bring secondary education closer to children in the area.

Technical Director for PMC Limited, Michael Mwase, pledged to uphold construction standards and ensure that the CDSS is completed within the agreed four-month period.

The project comprises a two-classroom block, an administration block, one staff house, two four-hole VIP toilets, one single-hole VIP toilet, a two-hole staff toilet, a water reticulation system, solar-powered electrification and other external works.
