SanlamAllianz Nigeria is betting that celebrating Nigerians’ personal achievements could help shift public perception of insurance and encourage more people to protect the assets and milestones they have worked hard to build.
The insurer has launched Proud Moments 2.0, an eight-week campaign by SanlamAllianz Life Insurance Nigeria and SanlamAllianz General Insurance Nigeria designed to connect insurance with positive life experiences rather than the fear of loss.
Built around the proposition, “You’ve Earned It. Celebrate It,” the campaign seeks to reposition insurance as an enabler of financial confidence and continuity, rather than simply a product people turn to when things go wrong.
The strategy comes as insurers continue to grapple with low insurance penetration in Nigeria, where limited awareness and the perception of insurance as a product centred on risk and misfortune have remained barriers to broader adoption.
SanlamAllianz is seeking to change that narrative by putting the spotlight on achievements ranging from starting a business and buying a first car or home to attaining educational milestones, building a family or overcoming personal challenges.
Chris Ekwonwa, group head, Strategy, Marketing and Customer Relations, SanlamAllianz Nigeria, said the campaign reflects the company’s view that insurance should be positioned as part of the journey of building and preserving wealth.
“At SanlamAllianz Nigeria, we strongly believe that insurance should not be viewed merely as a response to what could go wrong, but as an empowering enabler that recognises, celebrates and provides people with the confidence, financial security and peace to enjoy what they have worked hard to achieve and continue towards life’s next chapters,” Ekwonwa said.
He said the campaign is also intended to reinforce the idea that achievements, regardless of their size, represent milestones worth protecting.
The initiative extends beyond individual accomplishments to recognise the parents, grandparents, teachers, mentors, neighbours, friends and other support systems that often contribute to making those achievements possible.
According to SanlamAllianz, the campaign will run across digital platforms, with a social-media-driven call for nominations of authentic Nigerian stories featuring emotional or life-changing moments with positive outcomes.
A national radio campaign and product advertising across selected digital platforms will also form part of the campaign.
Bankole Banjo, marketing and corporate communications manager, SanlamAllianz Nigeria, said the company is looking for genuine stories capable of resonating with Nigerians.
“We want authentic Nigerian stories, published on socials, and with a life-changing outcome,” Banjo said.
He added that the most resonant story will see its main character rewarded with an all-expenses-paid trip to watch the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar, courtesy of SanlamAllianz Nigeria.
The campaign also comes against the backdrop of the company’s emergence as one of the insurers that met the National Insurance Commission’s recapitalisation requirements.
SanlamAllianz Life Insurance Nigeria and SanlamAllianz General Insurance Nigeria were among the insurers listed by NAICOM as having met the new capital requirements, strengthening the group’s financial positioning as the industry enters a new phase following the recapitalisation exercise.
The campaign therefore combines brand building with a broader effort to deepen insurance awareness and bring the value of insurance closer to everyday financial decisions.
SanlamAllianz Nigeria was formed following the combination of Sanlam, Africa’s largest non-banking financial services group, and Allianz, one of the world’s leading insurance brands, under a joint venture spanning 28 African countries.
The Nigerian operations, comprising SanlamAllianz Life Insurance and SanlamAllianz General Insurance, commenced under the SanlamAllianz brand in June 2025.
Since then, the group has expanded its footprint to more than 30 states, positioning itself as one of the major players in Nigeria’s insurance market.
With Proud Moments 2.0, the company is seeking to take that positioning beyond market share and financial strength by making insurance part of the conversation around what Nigerians value most: the businesses they build, the homes they acquire, the families they raise and the milestones they achieve.
