The Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation (MDPCO) has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, describing it as a “Nebuchadnezzar Coalition” and predicting that the alliance will face internal challenges and public rejection.
The organisation alleged that the council comprises politically inconsistent figures and politicians whose records, it claimed, could undermine the credibility of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
In a statement signed by its Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Ihediwa, the MDPCO argued that the APC’s campaign structure would not erase public dissatisfaction with the administration’s economic policies, insecurity and declining confidence in government.
The campaign organisation accused the ruling party of relying on political influence and powerful allies rather than addressing the hardships confronting Nigerians.
It also argued that the growing alliance of former governors, legislators and other political figures would not necessarily translate into popular support at the ballot box.
The MDPCO further criticised the Tinubu administration over poverty, unemployment, education and access to basic services, citing figures it attributed to the World Bank and government officials.
According to the statement, the organisation questioned what the APC campaign council would tell Nigerians about the reported scale of multidimensional poverty and the challenges facing millions of households struggling with food insecurity and limited economic opportunities.
It also raised concerns over a reported government disclosure that a significant proportion of Nigerian children under the age of 10 could not read and understand a simple sentence, describing the situation as evidence of a broader human capital crisis.
The campaign organisation maintained that these challenges required accountability and measurable policy outcomes rather than an expanded political campaign structure.
“President Tinubu is on a collision course with the people,” the statement declared, arguing that the administration would ultimately be judged by citizens’ experiences and its record in office.
The MDPCO added that no campaign council or advantage of incumbency could shield a government from public dissatisfaction or override Nigerians’ constitutional right to demand accountability through elections.
It also maintained that the size of a campaign council was not, by itself, a measure of electoral support, arguing that voters would ultimately assess whether their living conditions had improved under the administration.
Reaffirming its support for Seyi Makinde, the Presidential Candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), the organisation said its campaign was focused on what it described as the RESET NIGERIA agenda.
According to the statement, the agenda is built around service, productivity, accountability, human dignity and prosperity.
The MDPCO said it remained confident in Makinde’s candidacy and maintained that Nigerians were increasingly seeking a new direction for the country.
The statement did not provide independent evidence for its prediction that the APC Presidential Campaign Council would implode. The allegations against the ruling party and the characterisation of its campaign council also remain claims made by the MDPCO.
