DPP charges Nairobi businessman linked to Ksh.15 million fraud case

Walter Wekhanya Keya, a Nairobi businessman, has been charged with three offences relating to an alleged Ksh 15.1 million fraud by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

He appeared before Makadara Law Courts Senior Resident Magistrate Stephany Bett, pleading not guilty to charges of conspiracy to defraud, obtaining money by false pretence and possession of proceeds of crime.

Alongside his accomplices, Keya is said to have, between May and October 2023 at Drive Inn, plotted to acquire the said amount from Constant Wanyonyi under the pretence of being able to invest the money in a business venture.

The second count alleges that Keya and his team obtained Ksh.5.1 million from Mr. Wanyonyi through the same claimed false representation.

In the third count, Keya is accused of knowingly possessing the Ksh.5.1 million, despite being aware that the money constituted part of the proceeds of crime.

Keya was released on a Ksh.10 million bond with a surety of the same amount or a cash bail of Ksh.5 million after the prosecution did not object to his release.
