Four Arrested After Drugs and Phones Thrown Over Murcia Prison Wall
Packages containing 100 grams of hashish and two mobile phones were recovered inside Murcia I Prison following an alert from security personnel.
The Guardia Civil has arrested four people accused of attempting to smuggle drugs and mobile phones into Murcia I Prison in Sangonera la Verde.
The suspects allegedly threw several packages over the prison’s perimeter wall. Officers subsequently recovered the parcels inside the facility and found 100 grams of hashish and two mobile phones.
The operation began last week after a security guard carrying out perimeter surveillance noticed suspicious activity and alerted the Guardia Civil.
Footage from the prison’s security cameras reportedly showed a vehicle stopping beside the perimeter wall. Its occupants then got out, approached the wall and threw several packages into the prison grounds.
Guardia Civil officers assigned to the prison’s Protection and Security Service immediately located and intercepted the packages before establishing a surveillance operation to track the vehicle involved.
Their rapid response enabled officers to stop the suspected vehicle shortly afterwards on the RM-611 road in El Palmar, Murcia. The four occupants were identified and arrested on suspicion of offences against public health through drug trafficking.
The Guardia Civil said the operation was carried out with assistance from staff employed by the private security company Coviar Seguridad.
Judicial Police specialists have opened a further investigation to complete the necessary enquiries and establish all the circumstances surrounding the attempted smuggling operation.
The four detainees are being investigated as the alleged perpetrators of drug-trafficking offences connected with the attempt to introduce prohibited substances into Murcia I Prison.
