Nigeria Flamingos Double Their Lead Against Korea DPR As Umejiaku Scores Second Goal In U17 WC

According to a report by Flashscore on Friday, October 23, 2026, Nigeria’s Flamingos strengthened their position against defending champions Korea DPR after Oluebube Umejiaku reportedly scored in the 38th minute to give the Nigerian team a 2-0 advantage in their final Group B encounter at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

The second goal came after an impressive attacking move involving Tosin Rafiu, who provided the assist for Umejiaku to finish and extend Nigeria’s lead before halftime.

The breakthrough followed Oluwakemi Adegbuyi’s reported opening goal in the 15th minute, which had given the Flamingos an encouraging start against the tournament’s defending champions.

Umejiaku’s contribution represents another important moment in Nigeria’s World Cup campaign, having previously scored the team’s only goal during their 2-1 defeat against Poland in their opening group fixture.

Her latest reported strike would take her tournament tally to two goals, highlighting her growing importance to Nigeria’s attacking department.

The Flamingos entered Friday’s encounter under pressure to secure a positive result after collecting three points from their opening two matches.

Nigeria suffered a disappointing defeat against Poland before recovering with a 2-0 victory over Puerto Rico, courtesy of goals from Adegbuyi and Precious Oscar.

Meanwhile, Korea DPR arrived for the encounter with an impressive record, having scored 12 goals in their opening two matches.

The Asian champions defeated Puerto Rico 6-0 before recording another convincing 6-1 victory over Poland, establishing themselves as one of the strongest attacking teams in the competition.

However, Nigeria’s reported two-goal advantage in the first half would represent a remarkable turnaround against opponents who had conceded only once before Friday’s fixture.

Head coach Akeem Busari will be particularly encouraged by the attacking contributions of Adegbuyi, Rafiu and Umejiaku, with the three players combining to put Nigeria in a commanding position.

The Flamingos will now be hoping to maintain their defensive organisation and prevent Korea DPR from finding a way back into the contest.

A victory would guarantee Nigeria’s qualification for the Round of 16, while even a draw would be sufficient to secure progression from Group B.

With Nigeria reportedly leading 2-0 after 38 minutes, the team has placed itself in a promising position to secure one of its most significant results at the tournament.

The Flamingos will nevertheless need to remain disciplined against a Korea DPR side capable of producing dangerous attacking performances.

Should Nigeria maintain their advantage, the result would provide a major confidence boost ahead of the knockout stage and strengthen their ambitions of improving on their third-place finish at the 2022 edition.
