Airtel rewards Scorchers with 5G routers
Airtel Malawi has rewarded members of the Malawi Women’s National Football Team, the Scorchers, with 5G routers and a one-year data package following their historic run at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The telecommunications company is giving out 50 routers to players, members of the technical panel and selected officials who travelled with the team to Morocco.
Airtel Malawi Head of Public Relations Steve Kapoloma said the Scorchers’ achievement of reaching the WAFCON final on their debut deserved recognition.
The team made history in Morocco by reaching the final before finishing as runners-up.
Football Association of Malawi Executive Committee member Major General Gilbert Mitawa thanked Airtel for the gesture, saying the reward would motivate the players to continue performing for the country.
The Scorchers will now turn their attention to the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers, with Zimbabwe’s Mighty Warriors visiting Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe for the first leg on Friday.
The return leg will be played in Harare on October 13.
