Skater Kevin Kiarie Reveals Why He Missed Mashujaa Day Ceremony

Kenyan skater Kevin Kiarie has attracted attention online after explaining why he did not attend the 2026 Mashujaa Day celebrations.

Kiarie, known for his skating activities and presence on social media, shared his reasons for missing the national event, prompting different reactions from Kenyans.

Mashujaa Day, celebrated annually on October 20, honours individuals who have contributed to Kenya’s independence and development. The national holiday also provides an opportunity for Kenyans to reflect on the country’s history, achievements and challenges.

However, Kiarie’s decision to stay away from this year’s celebrations became a topic of discussion after he explained his position online.

Some social media users supported his decision, arguing that every Kenyan has the right to choose whether to attend national celebrations. Others questioned his reasons, with some expressing the view that such occasions provide an important opportunity for citizens to come together and celebrate the country.

The discussion highlighted the different opinions Kenyans hold about national events and the expectations placed on public figures during such occasions.

For personalities with an active online following, decisions about attending public functions can quickly become subjects of public debate. Social media platforms have made it easier for individuals to explain their choices while giving others an opportunity to respond.

Kiarie’s remarks added to the online conversations surrounding the 2026 Mashujaa Day celebrations, which brought together national leaders and citizens to mark the public holiday.

His decision also showed how personal choices can attract attention when they involve events that carry national significance.

While reactions to his explanation varied, the discussion continued to centre on his reasons for missing the ceremony and whether Kenyans should feel obligated to participate in national celebrations.

Kiarie’s explanation has since become a talking point among social media users, with opinions remaining divided over his decision to skip the event.
