A Wild Family Adventure Awaits at Lion & Safari Park These School Holidays

School holidays are the perfect excuse to swap homework and routine for fresh air, wildlife and a little adventure, and Lion & Safari Park has plenty on offer for families looking to make a day of it.

Located within easy reach of Johannesburg and Pretoria, the park offers a variety of experiences designed to cater to different ages and interests, from safari adventures and horseback experiences to outdoor activities, family-friendly dining and shopping.

Saddle Up for a Horseback Safari

For families looking to experience the reserve from a different perspective, horseback safaris offer an unforgettable way to explore the surroundings. Riding through the reserve provides an opportunity to experience the landscape at a relaxed pace while getting closer to nature and taking in the sights and sounds of the bush. For younger visitors, kiddies horse rides offer a fun introduction to the world of horses. These experiences allow children to enjoy time in the saddle in a family-friendly environment, creating a memorable holiday experience while introducing them to these magnificent animals.

Explore the Reserve on a Self-Drive Safari

Families who prefer to explore at their own pace can embark on a self-drive safari through the reserve. This gives visitors the freedom to discover the park from the comfort of their own vehicle, with opportunities to observe wildlife and enjoy the natural surroundings along the way. A self-drive safari can also become an engaging family activity, with children encouraged to keep their eyes open for wildlife and enjoy the excitement of spotting animals along the route. For an extra highlight, visitors can catch the lion feeding at 12pm every Saturday, Sunday and public holiday.

Get Closer to the Action on a Guided Safari

For those wanting a more immersive experience, Lion & Safari Park also offers one- and two-hour guided safari experiences. Accompanied by knowledgeable guides, visitors can explore the reserve while gaining greater insight into the animals, their behaviour and the surrounding environment. The guided experience adds an educational dimension to a family day out, giving children and adults the opportunity to learn more about wildlife and conservation while enjoying the thrill of being out in the bush.

Take the Scenic Route on a Quad Bike Safari

For families and visitors looking for an added dose of adventure, a quad bike safari experience offers another way to explore the outdoors. The experience combines the excitement of riding with the opportunity to experience the reserve and its surroundings from a different vantage point. It is an option for those looking to add an adventurous element to their school-holiday itinerary while enjoying the natural environment.

Refuel at the Wetlands Restaurant

After a morning spent exploring the reserve, spotting wildlife and getting stuck into the park’s activities, families can refuel at the Wetlands Restaurant, making it easy to turn a visit to Lion & Safari Park into a full-day experience. Set within the park, the restaurant offers a relaxed space for families to sit down, recharge and enjoy a meal together before heading back out to explore. With so much to see and do around the park, having a dedicated dining spot means families don’t have to cut their day short when hunger strikes. Instead, they can take their time, enjoy a meal and continue making the most of their school-holiday adventure.

Let the Little Ones Loose

For younger children, the kiddies play area provides another opportunity to have fun and burn off some energy. The play area adds to the family-friendly offering, giving children a space to enjoy themselves while parents take a moment to relax.

Discover Something Special at the Five Dome Shopping Experience

No family day out would be complete without the opportunity to browse for something special to take home. The Five Dome shopping experience offers a vast selection of unique hand-crafted curios, jewellery and clothing, providing visitors with the chance to discover distinctive items and gifts.

Make This School Holiday a Wild One

With safari experiences, horseback adventures, outdoor activities, family dining, play facilities and shopping all forming part of the offering, Lion & Safari Park provides families with plenty of ways to fill a school-holiday day with adventure and discovery.

Rather than simply looking for somewhere to keep the kids entertained, families can make their visit an opportunity to spend quality time together, reconnect with nature and create memories away from the usual school-holiday routine.
