Asante Kotoko Has Fined Their Portuguese Assistant Coach, Diogo Peral

According to a report by JoyNews today being Monday, November 2, 2026, Ghanaian football giants Asante Kotoko have taken disciplinary action against their Portuguese assistant coach, Diogo Peral, by imposing a fine on him following an incident involving a Medeama SC player.

The decision comes after Peral was reported to have slapped a player from Medeama during a recent encounter between the two clubs, sparking discussions among football supporters and followers of the Ghana Premier League.

The incident has attracted attention because of the position occupied by Peral within Kotoko’s technical team and the expectations placed on coaches to demonstrate professionalism and discipline, particularly during competitive matches.

As a member of the Porcupine Warriors’ coaching staff, the Portuguese trainer is expected to maintain appropriate standards of behaviour while representing the club.

However, his alleged involvement in the confrontation with the Medeama player has resulted in the club taking action against him.

Asante Kotoko’s decision to fine the assistant coach is seen as a disciplinary response to the incident and an indication that the club is concerned about the conduct of its technical officials.

The development has also generated conversations about the importance of maintaining discipline within Ghanaian football, especially among coaches and other officials who are expected to serve as examples to players.

Matches between established Ghanaian clubs often come with intense competition, emotions and pressure, but technical officials are still expected to exercise restraint and respect their opponents.

The incident involving Peral and the Medeama player has therefore brought the issue of professional conduct back into the spotlight.

Meanwhile, the financial penalty imposed on the Portuguese assistant coach represents the club’s response to the controversy, as attention remains on the relationship between discipline, sportsmanship and professionalism in the domestic league.

Supporters will also be interested in how the situation develops following the club’s decision to sanction one of its technical team members.
