Bandits Kill Kaduna Man, Abduct Wife, Children, Eight Others

Suspected bandits killed a man identified as Sikiru and abducted his wife, two children and eight others during a midnight raid on Babban Saura community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The attack occurred around 1 a.m. on Thursday, throwing residents into panic as the gunmen invaded three houses.
According to a community source, the assailants first stormed the home of an elderly man and abducted two of his children before moving to Sikiru’s residence.
They broke through the fence of his compound, entered the house and advanced into the parlour.Sikiru reportedly resisted the attackers and struggled with some of them before he was overpowered and killed.
The bandits then abducted his wife and two children.They also invaded a neighbouring house, where they seized a woman and her four children.
The woman, identified as Maman Mubarak, was later rescued by soldiers and local vigilantes. Her four children remain in captivity.
Local vigilante commander Usman Adamu confirmed that nine people were initially abducted.
He said the vigilantes received a distress call, alerted soldiers and joined them in pursuing the attackers.
“We traced them to the Eastern Bypass area and succeeded in rescuing a woman, Maman Mubarak, whose four children were among those kidnapped,” Adamu said.
“We made efforts to rescue the other victims, but the bandits succeeded in escaping with them. We are still concerned about the safety of those abducted.”
A neighbour of the deceased, identified as Anas, said Sikiru called him after the attackers entered the community.
“He called me after they entered the community. We were all worried because we could hear that the attackers were moving from one house to another,” he said.
Sympathisers gathered at Sikiru’s residence on Thursday as residents voiced concern over the worsening security situation.
The attack came just days after suspected bandits invaded nearby Kadaure community, where they killed a man and rustled cattle.
Efforts to obtain a reaction from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful as of the time of filing the report.
