I couldn’t care less if people play my old songs – ‘Repented’ Yaw Siki

Gospel musician Yaw Siki says he has no problem with people continuing to play his old secular songs, despite his decision to leave his former music career behind following his conversion to Christianity.
The former highlife musician, who rose to fame with his hit song Wo Pe Dodo, said he no longer identifies with the music he made before becoming a gospel musician but cannot stop radio stations and listeners from playing the songs.
“I can’t stop them, but then I don’t have anything to do with it anymore. It’s in your past, it’s there, then gone. Yes, all things are passed away,” he said.
Yaw Siki explained that his focus has shifted to promoting the gospel and sharing a new message, purpose and direction through his music.
“Whether they play it or not, I care less, but I’m not for it anymore. I’m championing a new agenda now, a new message, a new cause, a new purpose, and that is what I’m focused on,” he said.
Despite distancing himself from his former catalogue, the musician disclosed that he sometimes performs parts of his old songs to help audiences understand his personal transformation and appreciate how far he believes he has come in his Christian journey.
He said some people may not immediately recognise his name or former public image but remember the songs that made him popular. In such situations, he occasionally sings a portion of a familiar track to connect his past with his present testimony.
“Sometimes I draw some of the people don’t know the image and the name, but they know the song, and so I intentionally even sometimes sing it,” he explained.
According to Yaw Siki, these moments help audiences, particularly older listeners, understand the depth of the change in his life and the significance of his faith.
