Morning traffic update:

Motorists across KwaZulu-Natal are being warned of several incidents, roadworks and protest action affecting major routes this morning.

The Loskop Road in the Estcourt area is expected to be severely affected by protest action from Tuesday, with information suggesting the situation could intensify.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area where possible, with concerns that staff travelling to Loskop may be unable to reach work.

On the N3, both directions between Pietermaritzburg and Durban remain open, although roadworks and lane restrictions are in place around Ashburton, Peter Brown, Hammarsdale/M13 and other sections through the Midlands.

A stationary vehicle on the N3 southbound after the Cliffdale interchange has blocked the left lane. Another stationary vehicle on the N3 southbound at the Ohrtmann Road ramp has also blocked the left lane.

Roadworks are also underway on the N3 northbound after the Camperdown interchange.

On the N2, a crash involving a truck and car on the northbound carriageway after the M4/N2 split is causing congestion. Another crash on the N2 southbound at the South Coast Road (R102) ramp has blocked the right lane.

A separate crash on the N2 northbound just after the Umlazi on-ramp is partially obstructing the right lane, with Metro Police on scene.

Motorists travelling into Durban are also warned of multiple defective traffic lights on the M4 northbound approaching the Victoria Embankment, with slow-moving traffic expected at the N2/M4 split.

Debris from roadworks has also been reported on the M7 towards and leaving the Bluff near the M4 bridge.

Sanral advisory: Stop/go operations for temporary rumble-strip installations will take place at various points along the N11 from Tuesday for about seven days. Waiting times are expected to be 15–30 minutes during peak periods and 10–15 minutes off peak.

Motorists are urged to drive cautiously, obey traffic signs and allow extra travelling time.
