Omuthiya BMX team shines at national champs

Omuthiya BMX Club returned from Windhoek with an impressive medal haul after producing four national champions at the National BMX Championships.

The Omuthiya-based team collected four gold, three silver and one bronze medal, while also walking away with the Best Team and Best Coach awards at the national competition.

The results saw Omuthiya produce four national champions across four age categories. Salome Ndeshimona claimed gold in the Under-8 girls category, while Sophia Ndeshimona won gold in the Under-12 girls category. Gerhard Ndeshimona added another gold in the Under-14 boys category, with Hileni Job completing the club’s gold-medal tally in the Under-16 girls category.

The club’s other podium finishes came through Alberto Haufiku who won silver in the Under-8 boys category, Lindiwe Ndeshimona, who secured bronze in the Under-10 girls category, Ananias Kayambu, who took silver in the Under-12 boys category, and Selma Uupindi, who claimed silver in the Under-18 girls category.

The team’s performance was further recognised with the Best Team award, while coaches Salomo Ndeshimona and Petrus Petrus were recognised for their contribution to the team’s success.

Omuthiya BMX Salomo Ndeyamunye Ndeshimona said the strong showing in Windhoek highlights the growing development of BMX talent in Omuthiya, with the club returning home with national titles and medals across multiple age groups.

“If we could get sponsorship for road or mountain bikes, we will surely take out riders to the next stage of cycling in Namibia,” he said.
