Court Jails Painter For 4 Years For Laundering N104m
Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court in Lagos has convicted and sentenced a painter, Sultan Sulaiman, to four years in prison for taking possession of N104.09 million from four businesses in transactions linked to proceeds of unlawful activities.
Justice Daniel Osiagor convicted Sulaiman after he pleaded guilty to a four-court charge of money-laundering brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The prosecutor, Mrs Zeenat Atiku told the court that Sulaiman received the funds through accounts held with different financial institutions between January 2024 and September 2025.

Atiku said Sulaiman received N41.707 million from Brandtech Multilinks Enterprise through his FCMB account between July 18 and August 26, 2024.
She also claimed that the convict also allegedly received N23.114 million from Okesreal Farm Nigeria Limited through his Kuda Bank account between March 1 and September 2, 2025.
The EFCC lawyer further told the judge that Sulaiman received N21.272 million from WB Multi-concept Global Services Limited into his Moniepoint Microfinance Bank account between February 1 and December 6, 2024.
The fourth count concerned N18 million received from Pedrojay Multi-links Enterprise through his FCMB account between January 7 and 21, 2024.
The prosecution said the transactions contravened Section 18(2)(d) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and were punishable under Section 18(3) of the same Act.
After Sulaiman pleaded guilty, the prosecutor reviewed the facts of the case, tendered exhibits and urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.
But seeking leniency, the defence counsel, Adenike Goncalves, told the court that her client was remorseful and had recognised his mistake. She urged the judge to consider a non-custodial sentence.
Justice Osiagor then sentenced Sulaiman to four years’ imprisonment on each of the four counts, with the sentences to run concurrently.
The judge, however, gave him the option to pay a N1 million fine and complete three days of community service for each count.
The court ordered the prison sentences and fine options to run concurrently.
