KolaDaisi University (KDU), Ibadan, Oyo State, will showcase its research activities, strengthen ties with its host community and promote environmental sustainability as it marks its 10th anniversary alongside its sixth convocation from October 26 to November 5.
The programme will feature a research exhibition, community service, tree planting, alumni engagement and an anniversary dinner, culminating in the award of degrees to graduating students.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the immediate past Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Ishaq Oloyede, will headline the celebrations.
Obasanjo is scheduled to deliver the convocation lecture on Tuesday, November 3, while Oloyede will deliver the commencement address.
According to a statement from the institution, the anniversary will provide an opportunity to reflect on its growth and achievements over the past decade and reaffirm its commitment to academic excellence, leadership development and national advancement.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Olajumoke Morenikeji, announced the programme on behalf of the university’s Board of Trustees, Governing Council and Senate. She invited education stakeholders, alumni, parents, corporate organisations and members of the public to participate.
A major highlight is a research exhibition scheduled for Monday, November 2, to showcase the university’s academic and research activities.
Morenikeji said the university would extend its engagement beyond the campus through a community service exercise at Alata Market and Salako village on Thursday, October 29.
Environmental sustainability will feature prominently, with a tree-planting exercise scheduled for Friday, October 30, from 10am to noon on the university’s campus. A special Juma’at service will follow at the campus prayer ground from 12.30pm to 2pm.
The celebrations will begin on Monday, October 26, with inter-faculty sporting competitions involving students from the Faculty of Applied Sciences and the Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences, alongside male inter-hall sports competitions at the university’s Sports Arena.
Sporting activities will continue on Tuesday, October 27, with competitions involving the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, as well as female inter-hall sports competitions.
Alumni night will be held on Wednesday, October 28, at the Sherifat Agbeke Auditorium, bringing former students together to reconnect with the institution and strengthen relationships that could contribute to its growth.
The programme will resume on Sunday, November 1, with a special thanksgiving service scheduled for 11am at the Sherifat Agbeke Hall.
Tuesday, November 3, will feature the university’s Founder’s Day and convocation lecture from 11am to 2pm at the Sherifat Agbeke Hall. An entertainment night will follow at the Sherifat Agbeke Auditorium from 5pm to 7pm.
The university will hold its 10th anniversary dinner on Wednesday, November 4, while the celebrations will climax with the sixth convocation ceremony on Thursday, November 5.
The institution said the convocation would celebrate its graduates’ academic achievements and mark their transition into a new phase of professional and personal responsibility.
Morenikeji expressed the university’s readiness to welcome guests and stakeholders, describing the milestone as an opportunity to bring together academic achievement, institutional reflection and a renewed commitment to advancing higher education.
