… Says NDC Internal Crisis Leads to Disqualification
The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress(APC) has denied allegations by the vice presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress(NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, that it was plotting to disqualify it governorship candidate, Aminu Gwarzo, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The party described the allegation as false and baseless, insisting that neither it nor its governorship candidate, Governor Abba Yusuf, had any involvement in the legal proceedings concerning Gwarzo.
The APC state chairman, Umar Doguwa, stated this in a statement issued in response to Kwankwaso’s allegation.
Doguwa explained that the case originated from an internal crisis within the NDC and was instituted by some members of the party against it, not by the APC, Governor Yusuf or the Kano State Government.
He accused Kwankwaso of attempting to blackmail the APC and its candidate by linking them to the legal dispute, describing the allegation as an attempt to divert attention from the internal challenges confronting the NDC.
The party challenged Kwankwaso to provide credible and verifiable evidence linking it or Governor Yusuf to the court action against Gwarzo.
It maintained that it neither sponsored nor influenced the legal proceedings, adding that the judiciary remained an independent arm of government whose decisions could not be dictated by any political party or candidate.
The statement read, “Neither the APC nor its governorship candidate has any interest in interfering with the electoral process or using state power against political opponents.
“Every eligible candidate has the constitutional right to participate in the 2027 general elections in accordance with the law.”
Doguwa further described the allegation as political blackmail, particularly coming from Kwankwaso, whom he identified as the NDC’s vice-presidential candidate.
He urged political actors to allow relevant institutions to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without politicising disputes arising from internal party affairs.
The APC chairman also urged the public to disregard attempts to associate the party and Governor Yusuf with the NDC’s legal battle, insisting that neither had any direct or indirect involvement in the proceedings or any decision concerning the party’s candidate.
