Louis Page handed new role for Leicester, Man Utd will be watching closely

Manchester United tried to sign Louis Page during the summer transfer window, right up until 8 pm on deadline day. But there will absolutely be eyes on how he is performing this season.

At just 17, Louis Page is probably up there as one of the finest midfielders in League One, playing for Leicester City and attracting attention from across Europe. Manchester United missed out on Page during the summer window; however, interest remains, and another move is expected.

He would have cost £15m on deadline day, but now United face fierce competition for Page with Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea among those linked. This could allow the Foxes to demand a bit more for him in 2027 as they are developing him.

Page started for Leicester against Barnsley, and in this game, he was given a new role that highlights what Russell Martin thinks of him.

Despite all the talk and attention on deadline day, Page played that night, showcasing his mentality to not be distracted by a move that was really close by all accounts. This is another factor United should consider when planning another move for him.

Well, Page’s character and mentality have been highlighted by Leicester’s decision to hand him the captain’s armband against Barnsley with Harry Souttar out injured.

Wearing the armband, it was another impressive display, clearly not weighed down by the weight of the responsibility. Page played 81 minutes and had 80 touches of the ball at the base of midfield.

When on the ball, Page was really good and completed 60 of 65 attempted passes and one key pass as well, with a 96% completion rate in the opponent’s half of the pitch. Defensively, Page also shone as he won three of five duels, made two recoveries, and had one interception.

Despite Page’s endeavours, Leicester drew the game 1-1, which leaves the former Premier League champions 13th in League One, six points off top and three off relegation. Without promotion, Leicester could really struggle to keep hold of Page as he has already outgrown League One.
