The 30th edition of the Timbila Festival – M’saho came to a close on 29 August 2026 after three days of cultural celebrations in Quissico, Zavala district, Inhambane province. For the fifth consecutive year, Sasol em Moçambique supported the festival, which celebrates Chope culture and Timbila, recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Held under the slogan “Timbila 2026: Heritage that Unites Us” and the theme “Culture and Tourism: Towards a Sustainable Future”, the festival brought together Timbila masters, cultural groups, artists, and visitors. Over three days, Quissico hosted music, traditional dances, local cuisine, and other cultural expressions, with Timbila at the centre of the celebrations.

Inhambane Provincial Governor Francisco Pagula highlighted the importance of Sasol’s support for the festival. “We would like to express our deep gratitude to Sasol for its continued support for cultural initiatives in our province and the country. This partnership not only promotes Timbila but also strengthens pride in our identity and positions Inhambane as a leading cultural destination in Mozambique,” he said.

For Sasol em Moçambique, supporting M’saho reflects its commitment to preserving cultural heritage and strengthening communities. Sasol Mozambique Managing Director Sónia Matsinhe Chembeze said: “Culture is a force that brings people together and an opportunity to strengthen a sense of belonging, promote dialogue between generations and value the knowledge passed down through the years by communities.”

For the Quissico community, M’saho is also an important occasion to celebrate and preserve local traditions. Angelina Simango, a resident of the town, said the festival helps keep Chope culture alive. “For us, this festival is very special. We are happy and honoured to see companies such as Sasol supporting our culture. Timbila is our heritage, and each edition gives our tradition even greater strength,” she said.

The 30th edition further strengthened M’saho’s role in promoting and preserving Chope culture and highlighting the cultural heritage of Zavala and Inhambane. Sasol’s support for the fifth consecutive year continues its involvement in one of the province’s leading cultural celebrations.
