Fernandes Hat-Trick Lifts Manchester United To 5-2 Comeback Win Over Ipswich

Bruno Fernandes scored three goals as Manchester United rallied from an early deficit to defeat Ipswich Town 5-2 at Old Trafford on Sunday, extending the visitors’ difficult return to top-flight action.

Ipswich, who opened their Premier League campaign with a win over Sunderland, took a shock lead through Leif Davis. The left-back unleashed a fine half-volley after exceptional wing play from Abdul Fatawu, who carved open the United defense down the right flank.

The momentum shifted decisively just before the half-hour mark when Ipswich midfielder Marcelino Nunez slipped while attempting to clear a corner, allowing United to break at speed. Matheus Cunha drove forward and fed Fernandes, who slotted home the equaliser

United completed their turnaround shortly afterward when Harry Maguire’s goal-bound shot took a heavy deflection off Ipswich center-back Jacob Greaves and looped into the net. Although the ball brushed Maguire’s arm in the buildup, officials allowed the goal as the striker did not directly score it himself.

Three minutes later, Greaves was again at the center of controversy, chopping down Cunha inside the box to concede a penalty. Fernandes stepped up and calmly converted his second of the afternoon.

The United captain completed his hat-trick midway through the second half, pouncing on a loose ball after efforts from Kobbie Mainoo and Bryan Mbeumo were both blocked in a crowded penalty area.

Fernandes then turned provider, lofting a precise ball over the Ipswich backline to release Mbeumo. The winger’s shot crashed against the crossbar before bouncing over the line, extending the hosts’ lead to 5-1.

Ipswich managed a late consolation in the closing stages when substitute Chuba Akpom, introduced at halftime, finished from close range after Julio Enciso cut the ball back across the six-yard box. The goal did little to dampen a dominant United display, as Fernandes’ treble secured a commanding victory.
