Thierry Henry Spotted With Orlando Pirates Legend Lucky Lekgwathi Ahead of Soweto Derby

Kaizer Chiefs captain Brandon Petersen believes the return of Rushwin Dortley is a major boost for Amakhosi as they prepare for their crucial Soweto Derby showdown against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.

Dortley recently returned to action after spending an extended period on the sidelines through injury. His availability gives Chiefs another important option in defence as they look to put together their strongest possible team for one of the biggest matches in South African football.

Petersen, who understands how difficult it can be to recover from a serious injury, was pleased to see the defender back in contention. The goalkeeper believes Dortley’s return will add quality to the squad as Chiefs prepare for a demanding match against their Soweto rivals.

“It’s very good to have him back. Being on the sidelines for so long is never easy, speaking from experience. Knowing that when you have that kind of injury, the closer it gets, you start itching, you start making the matchday squad and then the chance to play,” Petersen said.

The Chiefs captain also explained that returning to the matchday squad is an important first step for any player who has been out for a long time. He believes Dortley can now focus on building his fitness and helping the team whenever he gets an opportunity.

“I think the important thing is that first game – coming back and obviously that’s done now. And for us as a team, it’s added value to what we already have. We know the quality Rushwin has. It’s up to us now, come the weekend, to have the best combination with one goal in mind,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Soweto Derby has attracted attention beyond the local football scene. Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has reportedly arrived in South Africa ahead of the match between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

Henry shared a photograph on social media showing him posing with former Orlando Pirates defender Lucky Lekgwathi. The picture was taken in front of a Betway Premiership backdrop, suggesting that the visit is linked to the league’s sponsor. The Soweto Derby is one of the biggest fixtures on the South African football calendar, and Henry’s presence is expected to add to the growing excitement surrounding the highly anticipated match.

For Chiefs, however, the main focus will be on securing three points against a team currently above them in the league standings. Petersen believes every point is important as Amakhosi look to close the gap on their rivals.

“I think every point matters. Coming into this weekend, playing a team above us, you want to make sure you come home with three points to make sure they don’t run away with the points in the league. But at the end of the day, it’s also important to see where we are at this stage of the season,” he said.

Petersen also admitted that scoring goals has been one of the team’s biggest concerns. He is hopeful that their recent midweek performance against TS Galaxy can help them improve in attack and build confidence going forward.

“Our main concern has been scoring goals, and hopefully this is the turning point for us. In the midweek game we had, from here we build and make sure that we fight until the end of the season and give a good account of ourselves,” he said.

With the derby scheduled to kick off at 15h00 on Saturday, Chiefs will be hoping that Dortley’s return strengthens their defence and helps them produce a positive result against Orlando Pirates.
