Newcastle United have renewed their interest in Morocco midfielder Bilal El Khannouss as negotiations for Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo remain stalled, according to Foot Mercato.
Newcastle reportedly offered €60 million, including bonuses, for Fernandez-Pardo, but Lille is seeking about €70 million.
El Khannouss is being considered as an alternative, although no Newcastle bid for the Stuttgart player has been reported.
The English club previously examined a move for the 22-year-old and considers his profile suited to its tactical requirements, Foot Mercato reported. His Premier League experience with Leicester City is also viewed as an advantage.
Stuttgart rejected a €22 million offer excluding bonuses from Galatasaray this month. The Bundesliga club is now reportedly open to a major sale before the transfer window closes, but El Khannouss remains under contract until 2030.
The Moroccan had initially favored staying in Germany, where Stuttgart qualified for the Champions League, but is now reported to be more receptive to a transfer and a return to England.
