A Windhoek resident accused of assaulting and murdering his former domestic partner by stabbing her with a knife multiple times has been convicted on nine charges levelled against him.
Tjizake Murangi, a former gym instructor, was found guilty of the charges after pleading guilty to all of them before Windhoek High Court Judge Claudia Claasen last Friday.
He faced charges including housebreaking with intent to murder and murder, and a count of assault, both read with the Combating of Domestic Violence Act. Additional charges included fraud, two counts of forgery, two counts of uttering a forged document, and two counts of stock theft.
The State alleged that Murangi broke into the flat of his former girlfriend, Frieda Ndinelago Amadhila (29), before attacking and stabbing her multiple times with a knife at her Windhoek flat between 7 and 8 April 2024.
At the time of the incident, the Namibian Police allegedly reported that neighbours alerted them about the couple’s fight and, upon arrival, found the flat locked.
Amadhila had also called the City Police to report housebreaking prior to the police receiving a call about her death.
It is alleged that Murangi drove to Katutura State Hospital to seek medical intervention for the deceased, but she was declared dead upon arrival.
Prior to the plea, the accused had claimed that Amadhila had been the aggressor and that her fatal injuries were sustained during a struggle over a knife, which he alleged she had used to stab him first.
The State further alleges that Murangi assaulted Amadhila in February 2024, after which she ended their relationship.
A postmortem report showed that the deceased was stabbed more than eight times, the wounds being deep, indicating they were inflicted by a strong person.
Amadhila allegedly also suffered defensive wounds, however, she got overpowered, and the wounds on her knees indicated she could not defend herself during the attack.
The report further specified that there were two stab wounds that penetrated the rib cage, and three wounds had reached the heart of the deceased.
Murangi on Friday pleaded guilty to all the charges, admitting that during that specified period, he broke into the residence of Amadhila by breaking the lock of a burglar door, entered and killed her.
He also admitted to having assaulted Amadhila on 24 February 2024, that he pushed her body against a wall and slapped her, resulting in injuries.
Murangi also admitted that he fraudulently sold a piece of communal and in the Otjombinde area for N$115 000, to Amadhila and her sister, Elena Amadhila.
The piece of land did not belong to Murangi, nor was it acquired from one David Kuuonga, but it was a piece of Communal land which could not be legally brought and sold by individuals.
The land was allegedly sold to the Amadhila sisters, and they paid N$70 00 consisting of cash and heifers to the value of N$45 000, the total of which was N$115 000.
He also admitted that he forged, in writing, a declaration statement on 22 January 2024, with intent to defraud the Amadhila sisters and the Namibian police, and gave a forged document of a land handover agreement between him and Kuuonga to the Amadhila sisters.
He admitted that in the same period, he also uttered and put off the forged document to the Amadhila sisters, knowing full well that it had been forged.
Murangi admitted that during the period of March to April 2024, he stole two head of cattle valued at N$12 000, and again two head of cattle valued at N$13 000 during October 2024, all four belonging to the Amadhila sisters.
“I admit that I knew my actions were wrongful and unlawful and I admit that I acted out of my own volition,” he said in his plea statement.
He added that his actions caused him a great deal of embarrassment.
“I fully admit that it was unbecoming for me to have handled myself in the manner and fashion I did and I feel remorse for my actions,” Murangi said.
The matter was postponed to 28 October 2026 for pre-sentencing proceedings.
Murangi is represented by Mbanga Siyomunji and the State by Ian Malumani.
