Police Warn Against Use Of Unlicensed Vehicle Plates, Concealed Plate Numbers In FCT

The FCT Police Command has warned motorists and vehicle owners against the use of vehicles without valid license plates, deliberately faded plate numbers, as well as vehicles with concealed license plates, particularly by persons driving SUVs except top government officials.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, on Sunday, residents are also warned against the use of fake diplomatic plate numbers or the use of such numbers by unauthorised persons within the FCT.

The warning, issued by the CP, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, followed the proliferation of such vehicles, which have been observed to be used by criminal elements to evade detection, identification and arrest during and after the commission of offences.

“The Federal Capital Territory is a peculiar environment where the use of such vehicles poses significant security concerns, as it may hinder effective identification and tracking by law enforcement agencies”, the statement read in part.

The Commissioner of Police, therefore, warned that motorists found operating such vehicles in violation of the law will be arrested and prosecuted immediately in accordance with the law.

The Command said it has further directed all police officers across the FCT to intensify enforcement and ensure strict compliance with extant laws governing vehicle licensing.

Officers have also been directed to conduct such operations professionally and refrain from using the exercise as a means of extortion.

The Command urges residents to support police operations, as security is a collective responsibility.

Members of the public are also encouraged to report suspicious vehicles or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency numbers: 08032003913, 08028940883.
