Sir Alex Ferguson says it is ‘not true’ that he was prepared to commit to premature sale of Man Utd legend

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that a former Manchester United superstar thought that he was being offloaded from Old Trafford during his managerial reign.
The 84-year-old legendary former Manchester United manager has now returned to the spotlight after promoting his forthcoming book, ‘Games of My Life.’
Sir Alex Ferguson has picked out 21 “iconic” matches for ‘Games of My Life,’ including fixtures from his illustrious managerial career in Scotland and England.
The iconic former Aberdeen boss recalled his time at United during his interview on BBC Breakfast and Ferguson singled out Red Devils legend Sir David Beckham.
Sir Alex Ferguson says that Sir David Beckham was concerned with his 1995 Man Utd decision
Sir David Beckham was one of Manchester United’s famous ‘Class of ‘92’ stars who became a mainstay under Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure at Old Trafford. The 51-year-old iconic former Man Utd No 7 rose through the ranks of the Premier League club’s youth academy before breaking into the ranks of the first team.
Beckham shot to superstardom with United and was a devastating winger during his prolific run at Old Trafford under legendary former Red Devils boss Ferguson. However, the former Man Utd winger developed at a much later rate than his fellow Class of ‘92 stars and Beckham was briefly loaned out to Preston North End in 1995.
Ferguson admitted that former England captain Beckham felt that the iconic Scot was looking for a means to offload him from Old Trafford when it wasn’t the case at all.
“We’d worked really hard getting youth into the club again and this bunch of young lads became the spirit of Manchester United,” he told BBC Sport.
“They added something. Apart from the great abilities they had, they had desire. I put Beckham out on loan at Preston [in March 1995] and he thought I was trying to get rid of him, which was not true.”
Beckham returned from his loan spell at Preston North End and played a crucial role for Ferguson, including his major impact in Man Utd’s famed 1998-99 treble-winning season. According to Ferguson, the main concern around the former United and England star was his overall physique as a youngster.
“David was the last to really develop because of his physique,” he added.
“Although he grew to 6ft, he was small and thin as a young kid.”
Beckham lifted six Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and two FA Cups during his time at Old Trafford. The Man Utd treble winner’s relationship with Ferguson splintered in the tail end of his Red Devils run and Beckham was sold to La Liga side Real Madrid in 2003.
