Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has voiced strong confidence that a unified opposition presidential candidate will challenge and unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 general election.
Addressing congregants during a church service at St. Stephen’s ACK Church in Dracut, Massachusetts, the former deputy president assured the diaspora community that opposition leaders plan to present a single flagbearer whom Kenyans will rally behind. He stressed that naming this candidate will mark a decisive turning point in the race for State House.
Gachagua pledged his commitment to uniting the opposition, expressing his willingness to step aside if another leader takes the mantle.
“I want to assure you that we shall give you a single opposition presidential candidate. Me, I will do whatever is within my power and ability, make whatever sacrifices to make sure that we have one single candidate so that the liberation of our country can begin in earnest,” he said.
Dismissing fears that internal rivalries might derail the coalition’s chances, Gachagua expressed certainty that the chosen candidate will command widespread public support.
“And I want to assure the people that the candidate we shall pick, you people will be happy. The day we announce that candidate, it is the day the 2027 election will be won,” he said.
He reiterated his readiness to back whichever candidate the coalition selects should he fail to secure the nomination himself.
*“But if it is not agreed that it is me, I will support the one who will be chosen over me, because we have no otherwise. I can assure you that the Kenyan people cannot allow us the luxury of doing anything different. *
“Tukikosa kusikizana watatutoa kwa nyumba zetu (if we fail to agree, they will evict us from our homes),” the former DP stated.
Turning his focus to the Kenyan diaspora, Gachagua urged citizens living abroad to offer spiritual and moral support as political momentum builds back home.
“So, relax, pray for us, help us wherever you can, and continue to live in peace and love. You stay together as Kenyans. Love one another, support one another,” Gachagua said.
He also pledged to build a corruption-free nation that actively protects and encourages foreign direct investment from abroad.
“I know many of you want to invest back home, but you are reluctant because you don’t want your money to be spent on corruption,’’ Gachagua said.
