Ruben Amorim's failure admission at AC Milan means Man United at least won't live with regret

Manchester United are experiencing a drop in confidence in Michael Carrick but at least the situation isn’t being worsened by Ruben Amorim.

A 3-2 defeat to Brighton has raised some questions about Michael Carrick’s future as Manchester United manager.

In the aftermath of the match, United fans pleaded for Cesc Fabregas to become the next head coach at Old Trafford. Carrick is already facing an uphill battle to get things back on track after a poor start to the season.

The situation would be even tougher for Carrick if his predecessor, Ruben Amorim, was piling on the pressure by succeeding at AC Milan. By his own admission, he is not.

If Amorim made a flying start to his tenure at AC Milan, there would no doubt be a portion of the United fan base questioning why he was ever let go.

But Milan’s 2-0 defeat to Benfica in the Europa League means that Amorim is facing a crisis of his own in Italy.

Even before the defeat, Amorim admitted he could “fail big” at Milan and the Portuguese head coach even began to question how much time he would have in the job.

As per Milan Wire, Amorim said: “I don’t have the players with the perfect characteristics for my system.

“It’s impossible to arrive at a new club and have everything ready. But I prefer this kind of challenge because it means a lot to me.”

“If I have to fail I’d rather fail big.

“I want to help this club. I don’t know if I’ll get the time I need, but the players listen to me and that gives me hope that we’ll find solutions.”

Amorim’s AC Milan side now sit 34th in the Europa League table and sixth in Serie A after a mixed start to the campaign.

While United may be having an identity crisis with Carrick in charge, at least there will be no regret at Old Trafford around the decision to part ways with Amorim.
