The far right political pundit's racially charged attacks on Nixon and others like Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson highlight a contentious strategy targeting Black women ahead of the midterm elections.
Laura Loomer went on a tirade via X late last week describing U.S. Representatives Ilhan Omar and Ayanna Pressley, former U.S. Representative Cori Bush and our recent cover star U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson–all prominent Black women in politics with impressive educational backgrounds and extensive professional experience–as “ghetto, entitled, race-obsessed, destructive black B*TCHES who are completely unfit for the power they hold.”
While she does not hold a formal role in the Trump administration, Loomer who has 2 million X followers, is believed to have impact on major White House personnel decisions like those related to the termination of longtime CIA staffer, Julia Curlee.
Loomer, a far-right MAGA influencer and devoted Trump supporter even doubled down on her disturbing and awfully offensive tirade. ***“Angie Nixon is a ghetto, Black, communist,” ***Lauren Loomer just said on X this past Monday.
But there is even more hate. Loomer continued, “I called you a ghetto b*tch, because you are, Angie, and your record proves it. But you speak Ebonics though, so maybe I need to bark at you and tug your leash and then you’ll finally understand.”
Um.
Nixon responded to Loomer with an X post herself, “When referring to me, it’s Representative Angie Nixon. However, after November 3rd, YOU CAN CALL ME SENATOR!”
The wife and mother recently scored an upset victory in Florida’s Democratic primary race for the U.S. Senate, one of a number of winning candidates that have stirred enthusiasm on the party’s left flank but been characterized by Republicans as extremists.
Could this be the *real *reason Loomer’s panties are in a bunch?
Maybe it is about Nixon’s professional and personal credentials. Let’s see, the Jacksonville, FL native holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. She has served as Democratic Ranking Member on the Florida House Education Administration Subcommittee. Nixon opened the Cafe Resistance in her hometown of Jacksonville in 2024. This bookstore and coffee shop provides free tutoring, a community pantry, access to banned books and a wide range of literary genres while also offering a safe space to children and teens who want to read and explore authors.
If this makes someone ghetto, sign us up!
(But we know what labels like ghetto really mean when coming from the mouths of certain people.) This type of baseless, hateful, racist-fueled rhetoric is what we’ve come to expect from some folks.
This does not mean it can’t or doesn’t still hurt. Contrary to what we’ve all been taught (consciously or not), Black women, in all of our resilience, fortitude, courage and determination, are people with real feelings that deserve to be acknowledged and respected.
CNN anchor and senior analyst Audie Cornish summed up the sentiments many of us have regarding Loomer’s dangerous commentary:
“It’s depressing for me to wake up and see something like that…[it’s like] there’s this idea that if you’re a Black woman in the public space, it is perfectly fine to talk about you in the most cruel and vicious terms. And when you say something, you are playing the race card.”
Charlamagne Tha God gave The Breakfast Club’s infamous “Donkey of The Day” title to Laura Loomer for defending her racist rant and calling Angie Nixon a “Ghetto Black Communist B*tch”. In addition, Loomer received a wave of backlash from political vets like Wes Moore, Ro Khanna and even former Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Will any of this stop her vile social media posts from going viral in the future? Likely not.
We cannot afford to get too distracted by any of this. Protect Black women and vote!
