‘Two Bulls in One Pen’: Millie Odhiambo on Relationship With Gladys Wanga
Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has addressed speculation regarding a personal rift between her and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, clarifying that she harbors no personal animosity toward the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) national chairperson.
Speaking during an interview on Monday, October 12, 2026, the National Assembly Minority Whip expressed her willingness to work alongside Governor Wanga despite their occasional political differences.
Odhiambo noted that while their strong personalities present collaboration challenges at times, she has consistently reached out to establish a functional relationship with the county boss.
“I would like us to work together with Gladys Wanga, but sometimes what we want does not go well. I have personally tried. It is like putting two bulls in one pen. I think it is because we are both tough,” Odhiambo said.
Focus Remains on National Politics, Not County Leadership
The Suba North lawmaker firmly rejected assertions that political competition over the Homa Bay gubernatorial seat drives the ongoing friction between the two leaders.
Odhiambo stated that she has never contemplated running for the county’s top executive position, reiterating her dedication to national legislative politics.
“Secondly, I have never wanted to be governor since I joined politics, and I will not want to. It has never been my interest. My interests are at the national level, not the county,” she stated.
Addressing the broader political context within ODM, Odhiambo suggested that overzealous political supporters often exaggerate minor disagreements to portray the two high-profile leaders as bitter rivals.
She reaffirmed her respect for Governor Wanga’s leadership role, encouraging her to focus on executing her mandate and driving party initiatives forward.
“There have been some of our supporters putting us against each other, but generally, she is a good lady. Let her just work and continue strengthening the party,” she said.
Both leaders hold key leadership roles within ODM and the national landscape. Wanga serves as Homa Bay Governor and ODM National Chairperson, while Odhiambo serves as Suba North MP and Minority Whip in the National Assembly.
