The Accra Circuit Court has granted GH¢100,000 bail to a 59-year-old block layer, Razak Suleman, who is accused of unlawfully possessing quantities of dried plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The accused was admitted to bail by Her Honour Emmanuella Sarah Asmah, with two sureties who must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.
The court further ordered Suleman to report to the investigator in the case every Monday and Friday of each month until further notice. His plea was not taken, and the case was adjourned to November 10, 2026, for the plea to be taken. Suleman is facing a charge of unlawful control of narcotic drugs, contrary to Section 37 (1) and (2) (b) of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019).
The prosecution alleges that on October 3, 2026, at Weija in the Greater Accra Region, the accused had in his possession quantities of dried plant material and 48 wraps of dried plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs, without lawful authority.
According to the prosecution, the complainants are police officers attached to the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team. The prosecution said the officers, acting on a tip-off at about midnight on October 3, 2026, arrested Suleman in his room at Weija over suspected involvement in narcotic drug activities.
A search conducted in his kitchen allegedly led to the discovery of 48 plain rubber wraps containing dried plant material, as well as an additional quantity of dried plant material concealed in a gas cylinder.
The prosecution further alleged that during investigations, Suleman admitted knowledge and ownership of the exhibits. The suspected narcotic substances have been forwarded to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination and a report.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Erasmus Kudasi Dzidzon appeared for the Republic, while Victor Quartey represented the accused.
