The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Nasarawa State chapter, has suspended its one-month industrial action for two weeks following an agreement with the state government to address its demands for financial autonomy for the judiciary.
The suspension takes effect on Thursday and is intended to give the government time to fulfil its promises to the union.
The decision was announced in a statement signed by the union’s Public Relations Officer, Ogbere Zechariah, on behalf of the State Executive Council (SEC), following a meeting on Thursday.
According to the statement, the deputy governor assured the union of the government’s commitment to addressing its demands.
“The suspension became imperative as a result of the swift and fatherly intervention of the National President of JUSUN, Comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu, and in due respect to the person and office of His Excellency Dr Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, who has given firm assurances of government’s commitment to address our demands,” the statement said.
JUSUN said the two-week suspension would allow the government to honour the agreement reached with the union.
It, however, warned that the suspension should not be interpreted as a withdrawal from its struggle for judicial financial autonomy.
The union stated that it would resume the strike without further notice if the government failed to meet its commitments within the agreed period.
Following the decision, the union directed all its members across Nasarawa State to return to their respective duty posts immediately.
It also urged members to remain law-abiding, disciplined and professional in the discharge of their duties.
