Israel closes roads and West Bank crossings into Jerusalem for Yom Kippur

Israeli authorities closed several main roads in Jerusalem to vehicle traffic on Monday, for the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur, Anadolu reports. Footage showed barriers blocking roads across the city. Israeli forces also increased security at multiple locations. Authorities closed most checkpoints and crossings between the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem to Palestinians, disrupting travel and preventing some from crossing. The Jewish holiday season began with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, on Sept. 12-13. It continues with Yom Kippur, followed by Sukkot from Sept. 26 to Oct. 2 and Simchat Torah on Oct. 3.
