Wike Leads Rivers Lawmakers, LG Chairmen to Closed-Door Meeting With Fubara
According to a report by The Vanguard on Monday, October 19, 2026, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, led members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and local government chairmen to a closed-door meeting with Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Sunday evening in Port Harcourt.
The meeting held at the governor’s private residence, and its agenda has not been made public. It was the first time Wike and the lawmakers visited Fubara at home.
The delegation was made up mainly of assembly members led by the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule.
Also present were the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 election, Kingsley Chinda, the state’s 23 local government chairmen and other members of the Rainbow Coalition.
The visit followed an earlier meeting some weeks ago, in which Wike also took members of the coalition, including Chinda, to see Fubara.
Sources said Sunday’s engagement was a continuation of talks between both camps, aimed at building on ongoing reconciliation efforts.
It was also meant to help put the political crisis behind the state and find ways of accommodating Fubara’s loyalists in the new political arrangement ahead of 2027.
At the end of the meeting, Wike, Fubara, the lawmakers and the council chairmen reportedly came out smiling. A video captured Amaewhule and others greeting the governor, shaking hands and addressing him as “Your Excellency,” before Fubara rejoined Wike for a group photograph.
The development is notable because Fubara and the Amaewhule-led assembly were locked in a bitter feud for over two years, following a disagreement between the governor and Wike, his predecessor.
The lawmakers twice tried to impeach him before President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state and suspended the governor and others.
Despite the reconciliation, Wike ruled out a second term for Fubara and handed the party’s ticket to Chinda.
