Access Bank’s Nwogu urges strategic media partnerships to attract global investments to Zambia

The media has a critical role to play in positioning Zambia as a preferred investment and business destination by telling the country’s economic story to the world, Access Bank Zambia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Iheanyi Nwogu has said.

Nwogu said Zambia had significant business and investment opportunities that could be better marketed internationally to attract investors and tap into opportunities emerging across the region.

He was speaking on Wednesday when Zambia Monitor Managing Editor, Maimbolwa Mulikelela, paid a courtesy call on him in Lusaka.

“There is a need to deliberately profile Zambia’s investment potential and communicate the opportunities available in the country to regional and international audiences,” Nwogu said.

He added that the media could play an important role in shaping how Zambia was perceived globally by highlighting developments, opportunities and the country’s positioning within the region.

Acknowledging growing attention on investment opportunities in other regional markets like Rwanda, Nwogu said Zambia needed to ensure that its own opportunities received similar visibility among investors.

He called for collaboration between the private sector, government, financial institutions and the media in telling Zambia’s economic story and attracting investment into the country.

“The media holds the ace in selling Zambia to the world,” Nwogu said, stressing the importance of credible platforms in profiling the country’s business and investment opportunities.

He said institutions such as Access Bank, with their regional and international networks, could play a role in connecting Zambia’s businesses and investment opportunities to wider markets.

Responding, Mulikelela said Zambia Monitor cherished its independence and remained committed to professionalism and practice of developmental journalism that contributed to holding leadership accountable while providing credible coverage of Zambia’s economic and business environment.

She added that the platform was at the forefront of telling Zambia’s story and would continue to highlight opportunities across different sectors while maintaining its editorial independence.

“We are committed to independent, developmental journalism and to telling the story of Zambia,” Mulikelela said.

Credible journalism has an important role in documenting Zambia’s economic transformation, profiling businesses and investment opportunities and ensuring that the country’s story was told accurately to both local and international audiences, she added.

Mulikelela said Zambia Monitor was willing to engage with the private sector and other stakeholders on initiatives that could contribute to greater visibility for Zambia’s economic opportunities without compromising the publication’s editorial independence.

The courtesy call also provided an opportunity for the two institutions to explore areas of collaboration and partnership.

Both sides expressed interest in identifying areas of mutual interest as part of efforts to strengthen the visibility of Zambia’s economic potential locally, regionally and internationally.
