The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, underlined on Saturday in Luanda, the need to place prevention at the heart of African peace and security action.
Speaking during the 26th Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU), dedicated to strengthening conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms in Africa, Bourita emphasized the need to tackle the root causes of conflicts by placing the peace-security-development nexus at the heart of the continent’s preventive action, calling to further invest into factors that produce sustainable peace.
In this respect, the Minister said that the Kingdom of Morocco fully supports this session’s orientation and objectives.
He noted that the implementation of the Luanda action plan must go through coherence between the African Union and the United Nations and remain a guiding principle.
Furthermore, Bourita stressed that through this Extraordinary Summit, the Kingdom of Morocco reaffirms its commitment by positively hosting the ambition driven by the Luanda action plan and its implementation matrix. He considered that the financing mechanisms must strictly adhere to the Union’s budget procedures.
Held under the banner of strengthening and operationalizing the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) with a view to creating “a peaceful and secure Africa,” this extraordinary session takes place in accordance with the decision of the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government, held in February 2026, calling for a summit in Luanda on the theme of strengthening conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms in Africa and their financing.
At the conclusion of its proceedings, the session will be marked by the adoption of a decision, as well as the Luanda action plan and its implementation matrix.
