Gen. Muhoozi commends security agencies for arresting Moses Matovu murder prime suspect

Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has commended Uganda’s security forces for the swift arrest of a prime suspect in the murder of legendary Afrigo Band musician Moses Matovu.

In a statement posted on X on Thursday, Gen Muhoozi said the suspect, identified as Nsamba Arnold, alias Sitenda, had been arrested and was in security custody.

“I want to thank all security forces, working under the inter-agency security architecture, for quickly apprehending the prime suspect in the murder of legendary musician Moses Matovu,” Gen Muhoozi said.

He added that the suspect would face the law, stressing that justice would be served.

“The suspect, Nsamba Arnold aka Sitenda is in our custody. He will face the law and justice will be served,” he said.

Matovu, a veteran musician and long-serving member of Afrigo Band, died on September 24, 2026, after he was allegedly attacked by unknown assailants at Kibuli Market Zone B in Makindye Division, Kampala.

According to police, Matovu was rushed to Kibuli Hospital for medical attention but later succumbed to his injuries.

Police subsequently launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death, with a task team deployed to the scene as detectives began efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The arrest of Nsamba marks a significant development in the investigation, although the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder and the suspect’s specific role remain subject to police investigations and court proceedings.

Matovu’s death sparked widespread mourning across Uganda’s music industry, with fellow musicians, government officials and fans paying tribute to the veteran performer and his contribution to Ugandan music.
