AI summary
Released on 21st September, the game Dressmaker made a massive splash on the internet, and it has managed to maintain that momentum as it passes another milestone.
At the time of writing, Dressmaker has 21 004 reviews across all languages. Of those, 20 741 are positive, leaving the game at 98.7 positive reviews and the “Overwhelmingly Positive” review rating on Steam – the highest review rating the platform has to offer.
The sheer amount of reviews, and the fact that the vast majority are positive, is a real achievement and it always gives us that fuzzy patriotic feeling to see a local game succeed.
If you’re unfamiliar with the game it involves, as you may have guessed, the creation of dresses. The variety, customisation options, vast amount of details and overall welcoming atmosphere are just some of the factors mentioned by the many positive reviews.
“Choose fabric, arrange and cut out patterns, sew garments and add decorations. Dressmaker is a cozy simulation game where every part of making a dress is under your control. Whether your pattern is aligned to the grain or cut on bias, how you choose to arrange and cut out your fabric is what appears on the final dress. Take full control over what fabric to use for each panel of your garment,” reads part of the game’s description.
**A South African success **
Dressmaker is developed and published by Free Lives, arguably the best known gaming house in the country, thanks to previous successes such as Broforce and Gorn.
If you visit the Dressmaker Steam page, however, you may be surprised to see that the developer is actually listed as “Cozy Lives”. This isn’t a mistake, but instead a way to separate the friendly-for-all-ages Dressmaker from the previous games developed by Free Lives, which are much more violent and contain content only suitable for adults.
Cozy Lives is referred to several times on social media as the “more wholesome side” of the company.
Also on social media, Free Lives points out that it has several teams working on different titles. Hopefully this leads to more surprise successes like Dressmaker.
We, and many internet commentators, would also love to see Dressmaker on more platforms including console. Right now Steam is the only place to get it, though we should mention that it also supports macOS on top of Windows.
