Bobby Motaung Breaks Silence on His Role at Kaizer Chiefs, Says He Remains Part of the Family

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has clarified his position within the club, insisting that he has not completely stepped away from management despite allowing the current leadership to take greater responsibility.

Motaung explained that his connection to the Soweto giants goes beyond his official duties, highlighting his longstanding relationship with the organisation and the legacy established by his father, club chairman Kaizer Motaung.

“There’s certain things we can’t step aside from, the Chiefs legacy, the chairman’s legacy. I’m part of the family. I’m part of the organisation,” Bobby Motaung said.

His remarks offer insight into his current involvement at Naturena, where he says he continues to play a role while supporting the people responsible for the club’s day-to-day leadership.

Rather than suggesting that he has completely withdrawn from the management structure, Motaung’s comments indicate that his responsibilities have evolved, with his experience allowing him to offer guidance and support to the current leadership.

As a member of the Motaung family, Bobby has been associated with the club for many years and has played a prominent role in its administration. His continued presence reflects the family’s longstanding involvement in the running of one of South Africa’s most recognisable football institutions.

His reference to the Chiefs legacy also underlines the importance of preserving the club’s identity, traditions and long-term vision as it navigates the challenges of modern football.

The clarification comes during a period when Kaizer Chiefs remain under pressure to improve their performances and deliver results that match the expectations of their supporters. The club’s leadership has faced questions over its direction, particularly amid inconsistent results and scrutiny surrounding the technical team.

However, Motaung’s statement suggests that he remains committed to the organisation while giving other leaders room to carry out their responsibilities.

For Chiefs supporters, his comments provide a clearer picture of his position: although he may be taking a more supportive role, he considers himself firmly connected to the club and its future.

His message is that stepping back from certain responsibilities does not mean abandoning the family legacy or the organisation he has helped manage over the years.
