GES warns schools against unauthorised charges for trunks, uniforms, cutlasses

The Ghana Education Service has warned heads of senior high schools against imposing unauthorised charges on parents and guardians, including compelling them to purchase items such as trunks, chop boxes, uniforms, and cutlasses directly from the schools.

In a directive issued on September 18 and signed by Deputy Director-General, Prof. Smile Dzisi, the GES said it had received reports of some Heads of senior high schools imposing such unauthorised charges.

“Heads of Schools are directed to immediately desist from such practices and ensure strict compliance with approved guidelines on admission of students and student requirements,” the directive stated.

The GES warned that any Head of School found imposing unauthorised charges or compelling parents to purchase items through the school shall face severe administrative sanctions in accordance with GES regulations.

Regional Directors have been directed to ensure that the directive is communicated to all Heads of Senior High Schools and Senior High Technical Schools for strict compliance.
